Veterans Memorial Hospital’s “Get Your Walk On in Waukon” Route Remains Available to Public for Walking or Running Anytime

The Healthiest State Initiative strongly encourages everyone to walk at least 30 minutes per day.  The hospital would like to invite the public to still follow the Corn Days  family fun 1.5  mile and the 5K (3.1 mile) route anytime over the next few weeks.  Just stop by the front entrance of the hospital to pick up a route map and event goodie bag. Then follow the bright blue painted arrows on the streets marking these routes around town.  This year at the hospital’s annual event, blood sugar diabetes tests and massages were offered in addition to the Stop the Bleed training, pictured here.  The Veterans Memorial Hospital Family Fun Walk/Run is offered each year in conjunction with the annual Waukon Corn Day celebration.

Nearly 100 runners and walkers attended the Veterans Memorial Hospital “Get Your Walk On in Waukon” annual Family Fun Walk and 5K on Saturday, August 17 during Waukon’s Corn Days.

The “Get Your Walk On In Waukon” annual family fun walk and 5K was held on Saturday, August 17, in conjunction with the Waukon Corn Days celebration.   The event offered not only a 5K route by also a shorter walking route of 1.5 miles.  The near 100 participants took advantage of both of these options. Logan Houg of Waukon was the first to cross the finish line.  All those participating in Saturday’s event received complimentary hospital goodies bags.  Free diabetes/blood sugar tests and massages were also offered to all participants.

This year the event sported a costume contest that was open to all adults and youth entering the event.  Some of these creative costumes are pictured here.  Prizes were given to the top two costumes/teams.

The hospital would like to invite the public to continue to enjoy the event routes anytime.  Maps of the 1.5 mile walk and 5K route are available at the main entrance of the hospital along with participant goodie bags

.  The routes start and end at the south side of the hospital along the Gundersen Clinic parking lot.  The entire route is clearly marked with arrows and the word “5K” all in bright blue paint.    For questions, please call Erin Berns, Public Relations Director, at Veterans Memorial Hospital at 568-3411.
